Fantastic experience: Hometown Vet took excellent care of my dog during her dental cleaning and teeth extractions. They called me the day before and explained what to expect and when to drop her off. They communicated during the procedure when extra teeth needed to be extracted, and then after the cleaning was completed. When I picked her up, the aftercare was clearly explained. They followed up with me the day after to make sure everything was going well.

Fantastic experience: I had a very good experience with my senior dog’s surgery. The staff were so nice and professional. I also found that it was reasonably priced. I did not walk out feeling like I was robbed. Overall a good experience!

Positive experience: Great crew and doctor was very clear in concise. I had very few questions only because most issues were all covered. Prices appear to be fair. The only thing that was not such a positive experience is that they are running almost exactly a half an hour behind and I wish they would’ve either called me or let me know upon arriving so that I could’ve gotten something to eat or done a little grocery shopping down the street.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Amanda Pierce and her team are the best! Her team are such experts at performing invasive or uncomfortable procedures on my pets. I have cats that are super skittish with vets, but my animals barely notice when they get their vaccines. I highly recommend this vet office!

Fantastic experience: Ok I first started coming here in the late 90’s. Unfortunately I moved a way and it wasn’t convenient. When I move back in the area I tried several other clinics but was never happy. So I decide to try then out and have been really happy with the service. I highly recommend them.

Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend HVC enough! They are so thoughtful and sweet! We came in on a Friday and our dog’s health declined very rapidly. HVC was so compassionate and took the best care of my girl as she crossed over the following Monday. We were recommended HVC after a not so good experience at our previous vet clinic and couldn’t be more grateful for Dr. Smith and all the staff! We will be switching our cat to HVC as well come here soon.

Fantastic experience: We’ve had nothing but positive experiences at Hometown Veterinary Clinic, from the front desk staff to the vet techs and doctors. They genuinely care about the well-being of animals and have taken exceptional care of our two-year-old German Shepherd mix, who has experienced some unique injuries and illnesses over the past year. The doctors are always thorough in their exams, and the entire staff is friendly, professional and compassionate.

Fantastic experience: Annual physical of our older, big dog, with shots and blood draw. The vet, Dr. Carlson, and techs were outstanding. We like that in addition to the great vet services, they have a grooming service that is very good. Our dog blows her double coat twice a year. Their groomers do a good job with that.

Fantastic experience: My experience with Hometown Veterinary Clinic has exceeded all expectations. I brought my almost 11 year old Shepherd, Reese, in to see Dr. Carlson after being diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia. Dr. Carlson was able to recognize an underlying cause after reviewing x-rays from the emergency vet. We spent a lot time at HVC these past five months, Dr. Carlson and staff have always been kind, compassionate, and went above and beyond to care for my Reese. When Reese’s condition suddenly worsened, HVC was able to fit us into their schedule last minute on a Saturday, they were wonderful and reassuring up until the end. We just started bringing our second Shepherd in to see Dr. Carlson and will continue trust HVC with our furbabie’s care.

Negative experience: I have brought both my dog and cat to this vet since moving to the area in October. I have worked in vets prior and look for a certain kind of etiquette, expertise and compassion when it comes to caring for pets. Having said that, I have questioned some diagnosis’s but nothing that has screamed incompetent until our most recent visit this past Wednesday. My dog came in to have her eye checked and while there I asked to have her nails done. As they were leading her to the back, she turned twice to me to come back. She’s never done that at any vet, but I figured it was because she didn’t want her anals done (who can blame her). However, when they brought her back, I asked how she did. Vet tech: Wow, it was a lot. Me: How so, did she snap at anyone? (She’s never done that btw) Vet tech: No, she fought us the entire time to get free. It took 4 of us to hold her down to do her nails, so if you don’t want her to go through this again, we’d recommend having her start Trazadone before her visits. I was stunned. Then I was beyond angry and upset. I called the Practice Manager today and said that in no way should ANYONE have held her down and forced such extreme stress. Your tech should have come back and let me know she was too stressed to do the trim and given alternate solutions to try another way at another time. She was traumatized for no good reason and out of FOUR people, no one stopped this and on top, tried to imply I was in the wrong for not drugging my pet prior when I had NO IDEA what was happening. No other vet has had this issue with her and with dogs who are scared, you use LESS restraint rather than more. The practice manager was receptive and I appreciated what seemed like sincere sorrow and regret, but due to this endeavor, we will never come back. And you better believe that if this is happening to my dog, it’s happening to countless others. I will never allow another practice to take my dog back without me or doing what is needed in the room. I shouldn’t have guilt because it’s not my fault, but I am responsible for her and feel awful that I didn’t stop them from taking her when she showed reluctance. They completely lost my trust.

Fantastic experience: I've been using Hometown Vet Clinic for many years and have always had great experiences there. We have a husky/border collie mix who is very anxious and timid (and a bit defiant) at the vet and the Dr.'s and staff here are always accommodating and make our pet feel like one of their own. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a team of friendly professionals who take their time with your beloved animal.

Fantastic experience: I have been using Hometown Vet for my pup’s needs ever since I moved back to the area in 2019. My GSD Jodi was seen by Dr. Carlson and she provided nothing but the best care for my girl. She was always super thorough with her aftercare instructions, treatment options and always willing to answer any questions I had. No matter what the reason for the visit, routine or urgent, Dr. Carlson and the staff here always provided the best care to my girl. We became “frequent flyers” during the last few years due to a plethora of health issues that arised with Jodi’s health. Dr. Carlson was great about communicating treatment options to help my girl, and has a great network of specialists I was able to get referrals for to help find answers and additional treatment for Jodi. Unfortunately, I had to make the difficult decision to let Jodi rest due to her health deteriorating, and Dr. Carlson and the staff here were super accommodating and supportive during that process. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for top notch care for your fur baby. Thank you Hometown Vet for treating my girl with the best care over the last 5 1/2 years.

Fantastic experience: The Tech knew how to get our Lab onto the floor scale with a biscuit. Vet was very accommodating and let our Lab sit on the floor for the check up and he was much calmer doing it this way. All costs for shots and visit were discussed with me prior to treatment and this always avoids 'sticker shock.' I feel I have the choice to let a service go for the next time if the estimate is too high. We love this Clinic.

Fantastic experience: We’ve been using Hometown for years! Dr. Carlson has been our main veterinarian, but we’ve also seen Dr. Pierce and Dr. Hong. We just adopted two new cats and brought them in for check ups. From the front office staff to the veterinarians, we cannot say enough positive things! We also use Hometown Bed and Biscuits to board the cats when we’re out of town. They’re also very professional and respond quickly to any calls or questions. They also remember our cats and love seeing them! Everyone here really loves the animals (even the feisty ones) and show this through their interactions.

Fantastic experience: I was very impressed by everyone at Hometown Veterinary! The Vet was extremely thorough and friendly. I love how they refer to my dogs as kids. I never felt rushed and all my questions were answered. I have an anxious dog that has a difficult time getting her nails trimmed and they did an amazing job with her. I was very happy and I am glad to have a new Vet.

Fantastic experience: great experience with everyone at the facility. We went there to have our Great Dane's nails trimmed (we have tried with no luck). The facility was able to trim them without issue. We will be back the next time he needs them done.

Positive experience: The people are really nice and I can get appointments conveniently but I find it expensive. About $400 for a yearly all the shots, annual checkup required for boarding in most places. Seems cheaper to just get a dog sitter if you don't use daycare or boarding.

The check out was efficient and able to do email receipts for future records. The clinic is very clean, no smells, and calls you in the car so you can bring your pup(s) in directly to the exam room to begin your appointment without having to wait in a crowded waiting room. Fantastic experience: I already gave hometown vet a great review 5 years ago, but I wanted to give an updated one. We have brought all of our dogs here on and off for many years, whenever we live in this area. We got a new dog last year that seems to need a vet for one reason or another every few months and hometown vet has been absolutely amazing. I haven’t interacted with a single doctor or staff member that wasn’t super kind and accommodating. I also always have my toddler in tow and they are just as amazing with her. We were in this morning and my daughter was screaming and crying from the get go and the staff was so kind to her.. even bringing her a coloring book and crayons she could keep. Then doctor smith included her in our dogs treatment and explained everything that was happening. They were a godsend for a very frazzled mom. I am always blown away by their kindness and professionalism. They are the best and we are so happy to be patients there again!!!! -JB 5/13/25 We recently moved to the area and took our two dogs here for the first time yesterday for a routine appt & vaccines and we were very impressed! The whole staff was super nice and Dr Sholes was amazing! One of our dogs has a REALLY hard time at the vet bc of his nerves and I always dread having to bring him in but they were so sweet & patient with him and it really made all the difference! I’m very happy with our decision to use them!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommended! After my first visit, i went and told my friends with pups all about them. I went for basic annual shots for my dog, but came ready with questions about his overall health, and they were so attentive and answered each one with detail while also providing resources. Great experience for both me and my pup!

Positive experience: Unfortunately, I had a bad experience. Our realtor recommended Dr. Smith but when I made my first appointment there, I was told Dr. Smith was not taking new patients. The vet that saw my dog, I think, almost killed him. I then saw Dr. Smith & after hundreds of dollars in two days, my dog recovered. My dog recovered after I told Dr. Smith what the other vet had said, which was I think he got all his medication but if there is a problem let us know!!! Once he got the full dose of his shot, he bounced right back. I, also, was talked to rudely by one of the techs. On a positive note their prices are more reasonable than other vet offices. I am sure other people have been treated better or they still would not be in practice.

Fantastic experience: 1st visit with Dr Smith. She is an excellent listener and communicator! Came in for a consult and left having a clear course of action for our dog. It was well worth fighting rush hour traffic for this visit. We look forward to our future visits and can’t recommend this practice more highly. The care has always been first Class and the few small "emergencies" We have had were handled Very professionally by the other Doctors when Doctor Smith was not there. The pricing has always been fair and and the advice has always been correct, We have referred many Friends who continue to be customers and We will continue to do so !

It's is also very easy to get an appointment if there are emergencies or if your pet needs vaccines. The hours also work for those who have a Monday-Friday job. Fantastic experience: It's hard to review a vet's office until your pet (unfortunately) gets really sick. Before then, I could very easily tell you that the front desk staff are always lovely, kind, and knowledgeable. I could also tell you that the vet techs are capable and loving. The vets seemed first class but it was hard to tell when it was just loving on my sweet-until-they-see-the-needle corgis and stabbing them with vaccines while they were distracted, receiving kisses immediately after. Pemberley got really sick though. We tried everything obvious, the vets fought hard to figure out her mystery illness and gave her first rate care. I was floored that the vets discussed her symptoms and treatment even when we weren't there. We even received a phone call that our vet had been thinking/researching during her weekend and came up with what was ultimately the cause. Pem is doing great, and I wholeheartedly give credit to this wonderful practice.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Pierce is a caring and compassionate veterinarian! And the office staff have become like family over the years. When I have grieved losing my pets, the staff has been so kind and caring, grieving by my side.

We’ve experienced both their overnight boarding and doggie day care services — with each experience being fantastic! The facility has a warm, homey atmosphere that immediately puts us, and our doggo at ease. The whole place truly feels like a home away from home with their reclaimed wood floors and brick walls! (It’s like a little piece of Virginia Colonial Charm.) We cannot say enough about the staff too — from Amber and Dennis, to their incredibly attentive and caring trainers — they treat our dog as if he were their very own. In fact every time we pull up to the door our dog gets so excited he can’t contain his wagging tail, which speaks volumes about the loving and positive environment they’ve created at Bed & Biscuits. Whether it’s for a short stay or just a day of fun and socialization, Bed & Biscuits goes above and beyond to ensure our dog is happy, healthy, and well cared for. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for a safe and friendly place for their pets!

With our previous dog, we went to Caring Hands Animal Hospital in Alexandria Va., my girlfriend had been a client of theirs for over a decade but I was never too impressed with them. If you're looking for a solid, reliable, friendly & knowledgeable vet for your fur babies. Look no further because you have just found it. My girlfriend, the puppy, and I are extremely blessed and happy that we stumbled across this place. Also, I would just like to add the receptionist is just absolutely a wonderful person. Fantastic experience: I had been going to HVC for over 15 years. My husband lost his job and we had to go to a discounted clinic. He has since gotten a job and we are so happy to be back. It was like we never left. Our 3 Chihuahuas and our cat, Duckie felt very at ease as all the staff loved on them. Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this clinic! We had a previous vet as our go-to but the level of knowledge and care was just not there. However, here all of the doctors are wonderful and attentive. They do their best for each animal and they provide a lot of helpful information regarding whatever is going on with your pet and why. They did a great job treating our cats’ stress and anxiety. It also helps that our pup, Inigo, is much more calm and willing to go to this vet compared to our last one.

Fantastic experience: Our French Bulldog, Phoebe, had surgery to remove a paw cyst and teeth cleaning - all went very well, we received an update by surgeon, Dr. Hong, by early afternoon and thorough post-op instructions. Dr. Smith attempted to first avoid the surgery by fist prescribing an Rx but the cyst ultimately needed to be removed. Phoebe (and our cat) have been treated by Dr. Smith / Hometown Vet since 2019 - we are extremely happy with their expertise and special care they consistently take with our fur babies. The Bed & Biscuits next door is also our go-to for boarding and doggie daycare, a perfect one-stop shop!

Fantastic experience: Hometown Veterinary Clinic has been there for me as a pet parent every step of the way. They genuinely care about Alice and remember our conversations about her health. I trust them implicitly and know they always have our six. Awesome team!

Fantastic experience: I was first introduced to Hometown Vet Clinic in 2010 when we welcomed our adorable Cavachon Snickers into our family. Snickers convinced us that Rufus, a Cairn terrier should become part of our family. We have received excellent care and Dr. Smith and all the veterinarians there have constantly provided care, comfort and continued assistance in providing for our adored pet family.

Fantastic experience: All the personnel, including Dr. Pierce showed genuine concern for my furry friend! They were able to provide some simple instructions for procedures I can do at home and finished with testing when I brought my kitty in. They were thorough and able to diagnose the source of the problem without causing much discomfort or duress to my aged cat. I am so happy we can correct the problems with some very simple changes!

Fantastic experience: I love this place so much. Dr. Pierce is our vet and she is so kind. She calls us personally to give us test results and it’s is abundantly clear how much she loves animals. She is so patient with my dogs (and me when I have a billion questions). The front desk people are all so kind too. Such a friendly, helpful place.

Fantastic experience: Had to prepare my pet to move overseas. The vets and staff were wonderful and knew the process, so something that has been high anxiety for me became very manageable. Their professionalism and genuine kindness to both Pet and Pet parents is outstanding.

Fantastic experience: Had a new puppy exam with Dr. Pierce and we were extremely impressed. Everything was easy and clear from scheduling and pre-exam info with Claire, to the actual exam with Dr. Pierce and the technicians! Everyone was so nice and made us and our puppy feel right at home. Dr. Pierce gave us plenty of information and answered all of our questions. We arrived 10 minutes before our scheduled time and only waited for a couple of minutes. No needless waiting around in the lobby or in the exam room- very prompt! Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: super pet care! All staff extremely caring and engaging with both owners and pets. Their care and attention to detail cannot be topped. Our pet, Bailie (8 mo. old Shih Tzu) had her wellness check that went well and she was pampered (as she loved!). Unfortunately she had an unforeseen allergic reaction to the distemper shot, but the HVC team was on top of it and treated her immediately with the ultimate care for a full recovery. Fantastic experience: The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The doctors here caught the beginning signs of Cushing’s Disease in my dog that a previous vet missed. This early diagnoses has enabled me to implement preventative care to give my dog the best chance at a comfortable life with this disease. Both owner and pet recommended.
