Negative experience: We showed up with our dog who looked like he had broken his toenail off at his toe. After they took our dog back, the vet came out and told us she was not sure what the problem was but needed x-rays and probably have to do sedation. The quoted was around $800 but recommended we go to our own vet on monday, which we did. After about 10 minutes of looking at our dogs foot, our vet asked why they didn't take care of it at the emergency vet. We told them they recommended us come to you. Our vet took our dog back, gave him a reversible sedation, got the nail off that was broke and trimmed his nails for half of what your cost was for nothing but a loopy dog when we left. I waited until our vet appointment before writing this review. If it can be helped this will be the first, and last, time we use this emergency clinic.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

Your concerns are noted and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. We understand your frustration with the experience you had when you brought your dog in for what appeared to be a broken toenail. We recognize that the uncertainty regarding the diagnosis and the recommendation to seek care from your regular veterinarian on Monday may not have met your expectations for emergency care. Your feedback about the cost difference and the outcome you received at your regular vet's office is valuable information for us. Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention.

Fantastic experience: I rushed my beloved kitty in from 67 miles away on late Saturday night and I was absolutely beside myself. From the front desk, to the nurses, to the Dr and everyone else there, I want you to know that everyone of you helped us in such a horrific time. And even though I lost my Binx, I know you did everything you could to help him and keep him comfortable while I made the decision to end his suffering. The compassion and care you showed me and my baby, was truly a blessing in that time. Thank you for the tough job you do and the love you show to both four legged and two legged beings.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

We are so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt message. We know how devastating it is to say goodbye to a beloved pet, and we’re honored that you trusted us to care for Binx during his final moments. It means a great deal to hear that our team was able to provide compassion and comfort for both of you during such a difficult time. Your kind words are deeply appreciated, and we’re sending love to you as you grieve the loss of your precious companion.

Negative experience: These people do not care about your pet. They charged us 2 exam fees while we were begging for help with our dog’s care. They said we can pay the $5000 bill or we can put my dog down for good. Then when we showed up for the surgery we were told we have to pay another exam fee or Dr Winter will refuse the surgery. We went somewhere else and got the surgery done for 3700$. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Get a better price and better care for your loved ones. Insensitive. Greedy. Unprofessional, I was very disappointed and won’t be returning.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

An attempt was made to provide services to your dog through a different department in the hospital with a specialist. Unfortunately your aggressive behavior and foul language led to termination in services before Dr. Winter was able to meet with you and any services in the future. We are glad to know that your dog was able to receive care.

Negative experience: I am only giving this place a three star due to the receptionist. I called about my dog who I thought was having a stroke, I ask her what the symptoms were and she put me on hold. Then answered with same as humans. She put me on hold again and I hung up as my dog was having another one. We rushed her to the hospital and carried her in the first thing the receptionist ask was if I filled out the online forms....I replied back" no that's the last thing on my mind right now. I knew the she was upset......I didn't give a rats that she was upset. My dog comes first!. Then told all the people in the waiting room that there were snacks and coffee, well there were 3 packs of animal crackers and it was a very dirty area. It needed much attention and stocked. The vet techs and the doctor was AMAZING! Dr. Ward was so kind and let us know what was up with our dog and treated accordingly. It was a little over $500 and we were there 4 hours.

Positive experience: Wasn’t a terrible experience but the person who took my blind dogs vitals was rude and let him fall off a tall examination table onto the floor. $45 for 7 days of naproxen was a little crazy but I paid it. Actual vet was nice and it was clean.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

We sincerely apologize for the experience with your blind dog during your visit. We are particularly concerned about the incident where your dog fell off the examination table, as this should never happen, especially with a blind pet who requires extra care and attention. We also regret that the staff member who took your dog's vitals was rude during the process. This does not reflect the level of compassionate care we strive to provide to all our patients and their families. We appreciate that you found our veterinarian to be nice and that our facility was clean, but we understand that these positive aspects do not excuse the issues you experienced. Please contact us at (316) 262-5321 to discuss this matter further so we can address your concerns properly. Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback.

Negative experience: If I could give 0 stars I would. Spent over $700 for literally nothing. No answers. No solution. No help for our girl who was in horrible condition. Went to a rural vet and finally got some answers. The rural vet was kind, heartfelt, and is our girls new best friend. I will NEVER return to this joke of a place and I will tell everyone I can to avoid them if at all possible. A waste of time, funds, and effort. Unfortunate that there aren’t better options locally to actually help animals.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you experienced during your visit with us. We understand your frustration, and we want you to know that your experience falls short of the standards we strive to maintain at our emergency pet hospital. We take all feedback seriously, especially when it involves the care and well-being of beloved pets like your girl. We are genuinely sorry that we were unable to provide the answers and solutions you were seeking during such a difficult time. Please contact us at (316) 262-5321 so we can discuss your specific concerns in detail and better understand what went wrong during your visit. We value the opportunity to learn from this experience and address the issues you encountered.

Negative experience: Took our 8 month old frenchie here that had an infection in his wound from getting neutered. Dr. Perez told us we would be looking at spending 3-4k on surgery because of how bad it was. Decided to wait and take him to primary vet. Only spend $67 at the primary vet because all he needed was antibiotics. RIDICULOUS that they were gonna reopen my dogs stitches just to make some money. Either that or their vets are under qualified and don’t know what they are talking about. Highly recommend talking ur animals somewhere else if possible! Spend $300 dollars for the visit too all for 3 days of amoxicillin and an exam that took 3 hours.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

Thank you for sharing your experience. We understand how stressful and emotional it can be when your pet is dealing with a medical issue, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback.

Our goal is always to recommend care based on what we believe is medically appropriate given a patient’s condition at the time of the exam. In cases like this, when there is concern that an infection could extend deeper than what is visible externally, we discuss all potential scenarios—including the possibility of surgical exploration—so pet owners can make fully informed decisions. These recommendations are made with your pet’s safety as our top priority, not for financial reasons.

We also fully support and respect decisions to follow up with a primary care veterinarian, especially when a pet is stable and additional options are available. We’re glad to hear your puppy is doing well and was able to be treated successfully.

If you would be open to discussing your visit further, we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly and address any remaining concerns.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Fantastic experience: Today was one of the hardest mornings of our lives, and I can’t express enough gratitude for the care we received. Dr. Townsley was compassionate as hell. She was gentle, honest, and gave us exactly the guidance we needed without rushing or pressuring us. Every explanation came from a place of empathy, and that mattered more than I can put into words. The front desk associate deserves a special shout-out for holding steady when I absolutely could not. Her calm presence was the rock-solid start I needed walking into something so overwhelming. Every staff member we encountered was patient, soft-spoken, and made us feel genuinely prioritized. They treated our girl, and us, with dignity, kindness, and respect from start to finish. End-of-life decisions are devastating, but this team handled ours with integrity and grace. We felt supported every step of the way. Thank you for honoring our baby and for taking such tender care of our family when we needed it most. We will never forget it. — Elise & Michael

Negative experience: Absolutely will never come back to this place. Brought my dog in because she was bleeding out from another dog attacking her, they wanted $1500 to even begin doing anything on her on top of $175 just to even see her. Then they gave her back to us unbandaged and open wounds. So we paid $500 and plus just to get her seen. Absolutely insane. The doctor just said well if she’s non responsive you can always bring her back. This place is hell and it seems they care more about money than the animals they are saving. Not to mention they had a lady already pay $1000 plus for her animal and then had her walk out into the waiting room to pay another $300 plus while bawling her eyes out and all they could say was “sorry but it’s another $377” absolutely insane. If I could give 0 stars I would.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

Makenna, we understand that veterinary care can be costly. At Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita, we do our best to offer a variety of treatment and payment options. If you would like to discuss your pet's visit further, please reach out at (316) 262-5321.

Negative experience: I have never felt so disregarded in my concerns. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE. I brought my Mia in a few months ago for seizure activity, they brought her in and told us she would be under surveillance for 12 hours, we explained she had never had seizures before and her behavior had been significantly different, AND that we have had pups with brain tumors before and we suspected it could be that. They told us they would run tests (they did not except routine blood work) and to go home and we would be called with updates and pictures. We received no updates and returned at 1am with no answers. ( I understand being busy and not being able to give much on updates but when we were given her records later it should be noted they did not preform any tests or take documentation past 7pm ) We went home with medication and 24 hours later Mia had 8 seizures in the span of 30 minutes. We rushed her back up and once again explained that her behavior was different and we still suspected a tumor, instead of being listened to, we were told it was likely just a seizure disorder ( which we were told was very rare in dogs her age, by two other vets later ). They took her back and me and my family decided to just discharge her because it felt like they weren't listening to our concerns. ( While we were waiting on her to be discharged a man brought his pup who had passed away on the way to the ER, they placed him in a room but right after the tech and receptionist were making jokes out in the lobby, not about the situation but it just feels like there is a time and a place for banter and maybe the front area where people are waiting to put their pets down isn't the best choice) We brought her to another vet who finally listened to us and directed us to go to the ER clinic up in Kansas City, because they had a Nero department. ( WE FOUND OUT FROM THE STAFF THAT IT IS A SISTER LOCATION TO THIS HOSPITAL) The Nero team ran tests and found the tumor we were dreading. I understand not having appropriate equipment, but not once were we told to seek out a Nero consult, not once were we told they were unable to assess for something like a tumor, they talked down to me and my husband, they didn't listen to our concerns and took thousands of dollars just to give us nothing. I understand pet medicine is a difficult science, but no one wanted to try to give us other options. Mia died a week after all of this at home. I understand the tumor she had likely would've resulted in this death either way, but at least she could've spent more time at home with her family had anyone in this hospital had the balls to admit they had no idea what was going on or even had the equipment OR experience necessary to handle this. Instead we were brushed off and ignored. I am appalled by the lack of care these people gave to our baby girl. The contrast between this hospital and the one in KC is drastic. No one checked on my fur baby, she was alone, scared and confused. I cannot forgive that lack of care and I hope no one goes to this place.

Fantastic experience: I called Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Wichita because they were the only place open on a Saturday in the middle of a snow storm - and my little dog was so sick - he was vomiting blood. I cried on the phone when I called - they were so kind. Sent me a link to sign him in - super easy process. Texted me when it was time for him to come see the Vet - when we got there it was a short wait, everyone was kind and encouraging. My dog was not dying - thank you God! He had a touch of pancreatitis. They gave him meds, fluids, and offered to keep him, but said it was safe for him to go home if we kept an eye on him brought him right back if he didn’t improve or got worse. Wow. Could not ask for kinder people. It cost some money for sure - but not as much as I feared, and he was worth every penny. Sick puppy Care $$$ Happy healthy fur friend - priceless.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

Emily, we can only imagine how frightening that moment was for you, especially with the weather and seeing your little dog so sick. We’re truly glad our team could be there to support you with kindness, clear communication, and prompt care when you needed it most. We’re very relieved to hear your dog was not in critical danger and that the treatment helped him feel better. Your trust, understanding, and appreciation mean so much to us. Thank you for allowing us to care for your pup—we’re wishing him a smooth and speedy recovery.

Negative experience: This death was sudden, avoidable, and unexplained. What we were told would be a 4 to 5 day hospitalization ended within a single overnight stay, without clear answers. The timeline matters.. At the very beginning of the stay, we were told diagnostic imaging would be performed as part of the initial plan of care. That imaging never happened. We admitted our dog to this emergency facility after signing documentation stating there would be a doctor physically present and on duty overnight, with only a brief morning gap. That assurance was a deciding factor in trusting this facility and leaving our dog in their ICU. Within hours of admission, we were told the condition was serious but manageable and that the plan was several days of hospitalization with diagnostic imaging, continued testing, and close monitoring. Despite this, even after a full day had passed, Dr. Brock Lofgreen continued to promise diagnostic imaging, offering vague explanations for the delays, including references to telehealth diagnostic availability. Our dog was labeled ICU, yet critical diagnostics never occurred. Overnight, without us present, our dog’s condition deteriorated. The following day, we received a call from Dr. Brock Lofgreen stating our dog was “declining rapidly” and that we needed to get to the hospital immediately. During that call, he made it clear he was not on the premises, despite being responsible for ICU patients. We left immediately. The drive took five minutes. We arrived before Dr. Lofgreen “doc on duty” did. At the front desk, we were delayed by dismissive staff who appeared to be covering for the fact that no doctor was physically present despite one being “on duty.” We waited approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Only then did Dr. Lofgreen arrive, dressed in cargo shorts and a polo shirt. Every staff member (including him) we encountered during our dog’s stay had always been in proper medical attire. Shortly after our arrival, our dog continued to decline and died in front of us completely unprepared.. This outcome was not expected. No clear explanation was provided for how a patient expected to require several days of hospitalization ended within hours. One technician’s note in the medical record stood out. It was not a routine entry. It painted a disturbing picture of what was actually happening behind the scenes: minimal attention, lack of active intervention, and care that directly contradicted the ICU level care we were promised. That note prompted us to carefully review the records and ask detailed questions. Instead of transparency, we got deflection and inconsistencies. When we attempted to speak with this technician, we were told she was unavailable due to “moving out of state.” We later learned she had been terminated. No one could explain why imaging never occurred, why the decline was so rapid, or who was actively overseeing ICU care. When concerns were raised, the hospital director stated they were unaware that Dr. Lofgreen had left the hospital while responsible for ICU patients and failed to disclose that he has an ownership stake in the facility. Even when directly challenged, Dr. Lofgreen denied leaving, despite us personally witnessing him arrive AFTER we did and be debriefed by staff while arriving in shorts and a polo. Based on what we witnessed, our beloved family member endured, and later confirmed through the records, we do not believe this facility is safe for critical (or any) patients. This was not an isolated failure. It reflects systemic issues and a lack of accountability. We cannot recommend this hospital under any circumstances. Do not assume “ICU” means continuous care. Do not assume a doctor is physically present simply because you are told one is “on duty”, or because you signed a document stating there would be a doctor on duty. Drive the extra hours to a reputable emergency hospital in Overland Park. It is worth your pet’s life!! This review is shared so YOU understand how this place actually operates, not how it markets itself.

We are concerned to hear about this experience and deeply sorry for your loss. Please contact us at (316) 262-5321 to discuss your concerns directly.

Halen David Posted on Google 2 months ago

Negative experience: The hours posted are until 3:00 AM. We called at 1:05 AM and apparently there is no doctor available to examine our pet during the “open” hours. Just a little ridiculous. The only other emergency vet clinic is 2 hours and 45 minutes away.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

Halen, we appreciate your feedback. Unfortunately, our veterinarians are limited to how many patients they can see at a given moment and clients may see varying wait times throughout the day and night. We ask for your understanding as our hospital staff works hard to attend to the needs of every pet that works through our doors even with a large volume of patients.

Fantastic experience: I brought my dog Apollo to this animal hospital early in his DCM journey, before it progressed to congestive heart failure. By that point, he had already been seen by three different veterinarians, and I was looking for clarity and support. The veterinarian we saw was knowledgeable, compassionate, and took the time to explain what to expect given his condition. She provided an appropriate interim intervention to support Apollo until we could see his primary vet and a cardiologist, and she shared helpful information on supplements and supportive care. I’m very grateful for the guidance and care we received during such a stressful time.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

Heather, thank you so much for sharing Apollo’s story. We understand how overwhelming it can be to navigate a new and serious diagnosis, and we’re glad we could provide clarity, guidance, and support when you needed it most. Our team strives to take the time to listen, explain, and offer thoughtful interim care to help pets and their families feel more confident moving forward. We’re truly grateful for your kind words and wish you and Apollo all the very best as you continue his care journey.

Negative experience: I’m normally not one to leave reviews, but feel that after our experience a review was necessary to warn other pet owners. We brought our dog to this emergency hospital recently and was immediately refused care for hours. We let the staff know to list our dog was paralyzed and the staff did not seem concerned. They simply told us that the surgeon was going into a 5 hour surgery and there was nothing they could do but we could call around to see other vets in the area who could help us without any further recommendations. When we arrived our dog was purple and in respiratory distress and almost had to be intubated. She is getting spinal surgery today and has been in the ICU last night. Our pet was essentially left to die without us being given other options of providers who might be available to assist us surgically. Nothing was given to our dog to comfort her for our ride to get other help. Essentially our dog was left to die. We understand vets are managing multiple patients but the lack of empathy at the front desk for sensitivity of our situation was appalling. Do not bring your pet here, make the drive to Kansas State’s Vet school.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

Thank you for providing your feedback and letting us know about your experience, Margo . We set a high standard for ourselves and are truly sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations. Please call us at (316) 262-5321 and we'd be happy to discuss your experience further and understand how we can do better next time.

Fantastic experience: The staff here are incredible. From the kindness of the receptionists to the confidence and wisdom of the vet techs and doctors. They made me feel so at peace in such a stressful situation with my pup. We had to stay in the ER for about 7 hours and the waiting rooms were comfortable. They have plenty of outlets and provide coffee and some snacks as well. I couldn’t recommend this place more and I’m so thankful they were there for my Daisy Lou when she needed them most.

Fantastic experience: We brought our stubborn Standard Poodle in for a possible GDV. The staff, particularly Josie, provided attentive care for our anxious pup. We received excellent treatment, a clear explanation of the costs, and the veterinarian thoroughly reviewed the results and the treatment plan. If emergency services are needed in the future, we'll be back.

Fantastic experience: Wonderfully caring and efficient! You can tell the people working here really care and have a lot of feedback to give. We were able to wait at home till they were ready to see our sweet doggo, and kept us updated as things progressed. God forbid you need an emergency vet, this is the place to go.

Negative experience: I was very dissappointed with the exam fee of $165 that was stated on their website, verses the $955 fee they quoted me after a four (4) hour wait in their lobby. I was unable to pay that higher fee, and left after paying $165 and had received no diagnosis regarding my dog. My dog passed away two (2) days later at my home. I would have never made an appointment if the website listed the fees in advance, including the $955 fee they quoted me. I cannot recommend Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita at this time!

Fantastic experience: Fabulous staff and facility. Thank goodness for them. Made two visits. One on Christmas Day and our bet Dr was so kind snd helpful. Another visit at 1 am on Dec 28 for another administration of a med was so appreciated too. The vet tech that helped us was terrific and made my senior pup and me feel much better. I am so grateful this emergency hospital is available.

Fantastic experience: My 3 year old German Shepherd had 3 seizures on Christmas morning. We contacted them and they were open. By the time we got to them my poor boy had 2 more. When we got there he went straight back for examination. He'd had another and they let me know. We spoke with the vet who was very kind and patient with us. Very lovely woman who even when we were struggling to come up with the money to care for him helped us find options so we could take care of our boy. They held him for 6 hours. 2 of his seizures in the morning were outside so he was a mess and we didn't have time to clean him again before bringing him in. When we came back to pick him up they'd cleaned him. I was very satisfied with how the visit went especially after having a difficult history with vets in the past, especially when money got involved. So thank you to the whole team that helped my boy! It meant the world to our family.

Negative experience: Recently took my dog who is 5 years old. To this hospitals, Saturday morning I let my dog outside to use restroom and to eat, she was outside running around before eating her food. Then about 5 min after she was in the grass kind of sitting down but not moving and woulnt come to the door. I took her to this hospital, after the vet doctor came in and had said ryka had blood in her stomach and assumed Ryka has a tumor. She gave us the option to do surgery which is 8,0000 and said she had a less then 50 percent chance of living. Then said the best thing to do was put her down. Told us she was in a bad shape. They did not do any other observation like X-rays or ultrasounds. I told them I am not putting her down and to put her on pain meds. They told us she would die in 8 hours after the medicine comes off. Ryka was back to her normal self that same night. I took her to the vet on 13th and St. Paul Monday morning they did blood work and X-rays and everything was fine with her. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG OR PETS HERE!!!

Fantastic experience: Outstanding! A friendly greeting when we arrived for a consultation for my dog Tucker for a procedure that our vet requested. Quickly taken to a private room. Amelia reviewed notes that were sent over. I discussed concerns that I felt might have been overlooked. Tucker was taken back to be examined and it was determined they were unable to do the procedure at their facility. Because of my concern about his mouth sensitivity they suggested I leave him to have the dentist ( Dr. Winter) look at him although I did not have an appointment for such. I agreed and hours later I received a phone call with a diagnosis of tonsil cancer. Information was given to our options and they were both compassionate and frank about prognosis. Upon picking Tucker up Amelia was extremely compassionate and gave me all the information I needed. I cannot thank them enough. The cost was far less than what I expected for all that was done and the meds sent home. I highly recommend and feel blessed that were given such amazing care.

We are elated to hear about your outstanding experience with our team and are grateful that you took the time to share feedback about Tucker's visit. Thank you for trusting us with Tucker's care. Fantastic experience: My cats are my babies. I love nothing else more on this earth. This was the first major event I’ve experienced with either of my girls, and all the staff were very very kind, took great care of Juniper, and one of the receptionists (I wish I caught her name) checked on my well-being multiple times the night we got there (I was a mess). When going over the treatment plan, Dr. Kelly made it feel personable and not just like another patient. She was very assuring. Dr. Kelly called me multiple times with updates, I even received photos and texted updates, and I got to come in and visit with Juniper before she got to come home. Just last night I called in a bit of a panic, and one of the staff was very patient as she talked with me about what was going on/options/etc. Thank you, VESH. ♥️

Fantastic experience: My dogs ate rat poison. A whole block of it. I am so embarrassed. But this is what happened. My partner called this place and I started putting harnesses on my dogs to rush them to the vet. The person on the phone explained that we had to call the ASPCA (I think it was?). Gave us the phone number. Said we needed a case number. I got the dogs in the car and plugged in the address to my GPS. my partner texted me the case number. I got my dogs to the vet in under an hour. The vet came right out to get them. They referred to the case number. Then did all the appropriate things to help my dogs. Injection. Induce vomiting. Induce vomiting. Then we waited for a while so they could really empty their stomachs. In the meantime, I heard the person answer the phones and say the same thing about poison and animals at least twice. They said they get that all the time! 2 dogs had to be put down while we were there. It was heartbreaking to watch and listen to the people being so sad about losing their treasured companion. The staff was confident, compassionate and efficient, triaging all the cases. The estimate for care for my dogs was a certain amount of money. And then the actual bill was at least $250 less than the estimate, so that was a great surprise! My dogs are on Vitamins K twice a day now for a month. And they had a great time visiting with the vet people in the back. I am very grateful to have this emergency vet in Wichita.

Fantastic experience: The most amazing facility and staff I've ever come in contact with. My Emma was attacked her throat ripped open and they were not only providing the most ultimate care they were concerned about me as well She is my emotional support animal. Without her my life would be so empty. The patience they had working with me while I gathered my finances while providing her the best care. I cannot ever express the amazing capabilities this facility has with a phenomenal staff. I just moved here and this has been a life saver. Completely. She's alive and a long road to recovery. I'll take it. God bless

Negative experience: I took my dog in for a large gash. The veterinarian gave me the “estimate” to sew him up. It was a lot more than I was expecting. I asked to take a few things off … I.e. “laser therapy” after the sutures?? The estimate was still around $1700 so I asked for an itemized statement In the meantime, I found another vet to take him and get a second opinion. When I told the vet after she came back she was very rude and said “thanks a lot for wasting 15 minutes of my time!” I was very shocked that a veterinarian would speak to a customer like that

Positive experience: Don’t come here unless your rich, and have over $800 cause they wont care unless you have money. At all. Very careless soulless people. Not to mention on Friday November 14th around midnight a man pulled up with his dead dog in the back of his car and I watched as a female worker came out and talked to the desk assistant, laughed about it and joked about wanting to quit their jobs because of his time of arrival. Absolutely disheartening, heartbreaking and appalling. Disgusting behavior from those ladies. Only good thing about this place was the veterinarian was so so nice and understanding and didn’t charge us at all due to us being low on funds from spending all our money on vet visits and bills from up to a couple days before. He was absolutely amazing and so caring, but beware of those desk ladies.

Fantastic experience: Our darling little Papillon Frankie was having difficulty breathing because of a narrowing trachea , our vet had him on oxygen at their office and for the weekend referred us to the ER veterinary hospital. We were treated with compassion and prompt attention upon arrival . Met with Dr Kelly and her plan for treatment and care was explained . Left him in their care and after a day and 2 nights , Dr Kelly observed our visit with Frankie and sent us home with meds and her blessings . Very happy with our experience there. I know all cases don’t have a happy ending but for now we have more time with our fur baby!

Negative experience: I've been here once. The office requires you call a phone number for a credit check. It takes forever, and in a true emergency is a huge panic trigger. Once they give you a confirmation number, then the office will see your pet. Typically, thats the protocol. The second time I contacted this hospital, I was turned away at 9 pm on a Monday because they had scheduled operations and no one was available to help us. Makes no sense, and resulted in my dog dying.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

We apologize for the misunderstanding for a credit check. That is not typical the protocol, but more so options to help with financial options. Your concerns are noted. We apologize for the experience you had at our hospital. Please feel free to reach out to us at (316) 262-5321 to discuss this further.

Negative experience: I took my baby girl there for help with her recent diabetes. She had recently been diagnosed with it and had a bad episode. I had never left her anywhere on her own for 13 years. I had to this night and it was devastating for me and her. She struggled and of course so did I, but I put my trust in this place to take care of her. There were several that did take care of her but some I don't believe did. Communication was a huge issue. I was told that she was taken out to use the restroom and then when showing up found out that she didn't get up to go and had accidents on her bedding. I was told things that happened and they didn't...which I would have never blamed them for because she was sick and I understood things happen when they are sick but communicate it correctly. Since I had never been away from her, they said I could visit as much as I wanted and I did of course. Several were good with it and at times I was asked to leave. I never tried to interfere with them....just wanted to sit with my baby and comfort her and some were OK with it and others weren't evidently. I was able to take my baby home after 3 days with her but she ended up passing in my arms 4 days later. My advice to you is to adovocate for your babies and be there for them through these hard times. Some here were amazing and some unfortunately felt like being there was a bothersome. I loved my girl with all my heart and I will never feel bad for being there for her even when others there made me feel like a nusiousness. I want to say thank you to all those that made me felt welcome and allowed me to be with my girl during this time. Those with the lack of correct communicaion and understanding of the bond of a pet and human please begin to understand that this might not be where you are to be and that there may be a better place for you. Those still there that care...thank you for all you do and caring for us and the ones we love dearly. I loved my girl with all my heart and just wanted her to be in the best care as possible at the time. That was being loved, true communication and understanding the bond between a human and a pet. My baby girl was sick and I knew it. I needed a place I could trust to love and care for her the best way possible. At the end 1/2 were amazing 1/2 had a hard time. It has taken me over a year to post this. My only advice...thank you for loving those babies that come your way and the ones that love them...it is one of the hardest jobs to do and thank you for doing it! Those that are loving your babies....advoacate and be there with them through those tough times!

Negative experience: This pet ER is more concerned about your paperwork for billing more than taking care of your pet. The male receptionist told me on the phone to make an appointment or it was probably a 3 to 4 hour wait. I don't think that is how you handle an EMERGENCY. The guy had the compassion of a cold brick. By the way, when I showed up, there were 2 couples in the waiting room. Coincidentally, this guy's desk is in the waiting room, and he could see the wait. When someone calls in, panicking, maybe try to help. What a jerk. His name is Dakota. Both receptionist were nicer to the door dash guy than any patient in person, or on the phone. Pathetic. I will say that the doctor was good after an hour wait.

Negative experience: If you want to be condescended in an emergency, this is a place to be. I can't believe how the vet tech treated us. She told me twice that I could just go home. Why would I ever spend my money with them? You can tell they are used to a monopoly by how they treat people. So we left and went to urgent pet care on 26th Street. Night and day difference! New, super clean, friendly, and the most home feeling vet clinic I have ever been to!! Way better!

Negative experience: This evening, my dog, Pumpernickel, was presented to the emergency veterinary clinic, the sole operational facility at that hour. Care was declined, with the stated reason being that his condition was not deemed life-threatening. I subsequently inquired whether the issue could be deferred until the opening of my regular veterinarian's office tomorrow, as my research indicated this was a medical emergency with potential for infection and tissue damage if left unaddressed. The clinic acknowledged the potential for exacerbated issues by morning and confirmed the medical emergency; however, they continued to decline assistance, despite my expressed willingness to cover their fees and endure any necessary wait. We returned home, and fortunately, through a combination of time, patience, and some challenging/uncomfortable moments, I was able to resolve the issue myself, largely due to his trusting nature. Animal hospitals should consider staffing more than one veterinarian to avoid turning away patients.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

Thank you for your feedback. While we understand your concerns, we want to clarify that Pumpernickel’s condition, although serious, was assessed as not immediately life-threatening at the time of your visit. However, we fully acknowledge that there is potential for complications, and we always encourage our clients to seek care promptly when any doubt arises.

We are actively working on expanding our team by hiring more veterinarians to ensure that we can better meet the needs of our community, especially during after-hours of general practices. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to grow and improve our services to provide timely and quality care to all pets.

We’re glad to hear that Pumpernickel is doing better, and we remain committed to providing the best care possible for your pet in the future.

Fantastic experience: I brought my Lulu in. She wasn’t breathing well various problems. They were very quick and responsive took very good care of my Lulu just very pricey if I wasn’t able to borrow money, my baby would have died.

Negative experience: Lady on phone was very rude. I was trying to inquire about a constipated neonatal kitten that I found on Friday (10/03/2025). Was very dismissive and said that if I brought it in they'd call animal control or something because I "found" the kitten and they needed to find its owner. This kitten was abandoned and is a week old. It does not have an owner. Overall very rude and bad attitude. Not to mention being on hold for 15 minutes beforehand just to be treated like shit.

Negative experience: Communication is not a strength at this place. Sign in on portal and waited for a call to say come in. Recvd call and when I arrived it was like... we didnt call. They did take my dog to the back and 2 hours later dont have a clue as to whether he is sitting in a crate unseen or what... exactly is the plan . Could have been home sitting together had I not recvd the call to come in

Linda, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re sorry for the confusion and frustration during your visit. We’ll be following up with the team that was here at that time to better understand what happened and ensure clearer communication moving forward.

Positive experience: Kind, professional, sensitive. My only preference is that my cat would have been given injectable, long acting antibiotics vs. oral as giving my cat oral meds is/was impossible. Tech, Allison, is very professional and hopefully is in med school. She has many gifts to offer in the field of medicine. Thank you to Dr. Ward for his explanations and consideration for me and my cat. He was thoughtful and very kind.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

Thank you so much for your kind words about Dr. Ward and Allison, we’ll be sure to share your compliments with them! We’re so glad to hear you felt cared for and supported during your visit.

We also appreciate your feedback regarding the antibiotic choice. We understand how challenging it can be to give oral medication to cats, and we always aim to tailor treatments to what works best for both the patient and their family. Your input is very helpful and will certainly be shared with our medical team as we continue to improve our care and communication.

Thank you again for trusting us with your cat’s care, we wish you both all the best!

Fantastic experience: Amazing experience. Nearly collapsed carrying my big pup through the parking lot & was met instantly with help & a gurney. She was in critical condition but Dr. Lofgreen and Dr. Townsley saved my baby’s life. All staff were so kind and supportive through such a scary experience. They kept me updated on her condition when she had to stay overnight, and thanks to these amazing vets, my sweet girl is making a fantastic recovery from albuterol poisoning. Thank you VESH!

Fantastic experience: We had a good experience with this facility. Our pet had not been eating and drinking for most of 3 days. We were quite concerned. Having used their services before I felt secure that they would help. As before our regular vet office was not open being the weekend. We got in to see the doctor with a reasonable wait. Tests were run and good advice was given. The long term health for our pet is not good, not expected. We asked about the next steps, they sent the visit records and test results to our regular vet. We are following up through him. I felt kindness to our pet and us was given by all in the office. I appreciate this. I will go there again when needed, both children and pets tend to come down sick on weekends and holidays. Yes, I know it costs more, still when things are bad ... generally waiting will cost more both in $'s and in outcome.

The staff was professional, gentle, and reassuring, and they took the time to explain everything clearly. I can’t thank them enough for the excellent care they provided. I highly recommend them to anyone in need of emergency veterinary services.

Negative experience: I was there for 8 hours overnight with my 10 month old puppy who had been vomiting for 10 hours and left with inconclusive test results. I understand that what they see as emergency cases come first, but we were there for 3 hours before they even took her vitals. Then another 2 plus before we were taken back to see the vet. Almost three hours after that before they finally gave me her x ray results. I’m not sure if they are understaffed or this is how it always is, but I also witnessed them turn away several peoples pets in person and over the phone. Said they would have to go to Manhattan if they needed help. Wichita clearly needs another 24 hour emergency vet.

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita

We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience and the long wait you and your puppy endured during such a stressful time. We understand how difficult it is when your pet is unwell and you’re waiting for answers. Our team prioritizes the most critical emergencies first, which can unfortunately cause longer wait times during high-volume periods, especially overnight.

That said, your feedback is very important to us. We’re always looking for ways to improve our communication and efficiency so that all patients and pet parents feel supported. If you’d be willing to reach out to us directly at (316) 262-5321, we’d appreciate the opportunity to discuss your visit further and review what happened in more detail.

Thank you for sharing your experience, and we hope your puppy is feeling much better now.

Negative experience: My dog was Diagnosed with Kidney failure by my vet and referral to these hospital for second oppinion and get my pets some pain meds and was quoted $1700,00 I pay and when I pick up the dog next day they say my dog need farther review by staying another night to see and was told $500.00 extra . When I pick up the dog the wanted another 1800.00 make these $3,500 for pain relieve and second oppinion . They would not release a sick dog about to die unless you pay them . If you consider these place pet friendly and caring staff ? Think twice because they will charge average $1800 per night regardless of your pet conditions. And my pet eventually die few weeks later.

Negative experience: ON A SCALE OF 1 - 5, I need a NEGATIVE MILLION STARS option. After over a decade I desperately hoped the QUALITY of care provided would have improved as we had no other options for after hours. Sadly, at the expense of our beloved 4 legged kid, they failed epically yet again. The one and only thing they care about is bringing in the cash. On top of severely incompetent care they are heartless and treated her cold and callous. They gave attitude when we chose to discharge her upon seeing her terrified and trembling in fear. A different vet (2nd trip during business hours) in a half hour exam and review of lab, directed us to Neuorological specialist in KC - which is what this clinic should have done but failed to after 2 visits in 2 days. That failure cost her dearly. The $1,000 plus they charged accomplished only more trauma and suffering and may have taken her from us sooner. Since they failed to provided adequate/compassionate care/direction, we will never know This is not about the money - We would have gladly paid 2/5/10+ times that amount had they actually helped her - (did spend 10 × that for KC- where they actually care about the pets they treat.) It is my personal opinion that they intentionally neglected to direct us to Neurological specialist in an attempt to rack up the bill. Regardless whether it was intentionally or incompetence, either way, they failed to provide the care /direction she needed. Many other details to this experience, too many to type in a review - the end result -This is my third experience with this clinic and they have failed miserably and progressively worse each time. (How is this horrid place the only after hours er vet in wichita). We will go straight to KC or wherever we have to if we ever need after hours emergency care again. The only way I will ever step foot in this clinic again is if they fire the ENTIRE staff and start from scratch, including and most importantly- the most senior management. On an added note, one of the family witnessed another pet family being told they were losing their pet. At the same time - two of the girls behind the counter were laughing, joking and playing around a few feet away.... SERIOUSLY - WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? You are working at an ER vet... most likely anyone in the lobby or walking in the door is experiencing trauma. Social hour should not be at the front counter.

Negative experience: Place feels like a scam. I did the online queue at 9am. They called me in at 3pm, I waited 2 hours in the lobby before seen by nurse tech. By the time the veterinarian saw me it was 6 PM and she said she would recommend a plan of action. Three hours being there and nothing happened and they still charge me $165 for nothing. Unless your animal is genuinely dying, do not come here.

Fantastic experience: We had a medical emergency last Thursday with our dog Red and they got us in immediately at 1am might I add. Although we had to put our baby to sleep they took such good care of not only him but us. The compassion that each one of them shown us will sit on my mind forever. Our toughest time was eased but these great people here. We miss our boy immensely but we are happy he is not suffering. Thank you for your support you have an amazing team.

Negative experience: My vet instructed me to take my cat to VESH soon as possible as he had an urinary blockage that she had removed and he was going to need to be catheterized and sedated for a few days so that it didn't close. When we arrived, we were seen and the vet came in and told us that was the "cheapest ER visit you'll ever have" and that he likely was just inflamed, completely ignoring the instructions that my vet had sent over. My cat died this morning, needing to be euthanized because he was blocked and went into renal failure because this place failed to heed my veterinarian's instructions. My baby suffered because of this place. I am heartbroken.
