I have never had a negative interaction through all the troubles my kitties throw at me. They lead with kindness and compassion while providing top notch service. Experiencia negativa: Been going here for over 8 years now and they've changed a policy about prescription refills. They'll only do them in house or you need to come pick up a refill note.. 3 months ago it was fine being sent over via fax.. my cat has seizures and has most of her life so changing vets at age 10 really sucks for her and us all because they can't be inconvenienced to send a fax over . Its a load of crap a pets health shouldn't be jeopardized because of some inconvenience for the clinic . The staff was always nice outside of the people who answer their phones . I wish they would've never changed their policy as we live 30-40 minutes away so picking up a script is just out of the question. BE BETTER!

Experiencia fantástica: Our cat Mewey had a lot of medical issues when we adopted her. Frequent UTIs, vomiting, thyroid issues. We found out about Starch through word of mouth, as they are reputable. They answered a lot of questions and helped figure out a diet and meds for her that helped with these issues. It took trial and error. Smitten kitten was a great help as well. Mewey lived a good life and almost made it to age 21. Thank you Starch Pet Vet!

Experiencia negativa: The service is good here when you can get an appointment. I took my cat here every month for 2 years at the end of her life to treat her arthritis before she passed. However, I needed to schedule an appointment for my chocolate lab this week who has been vomiting and having diarrhea that’s gotten worse since Sunday night. I called Monday and they said they were booked through next Friday. They also advised me to give my lab a bland diet which I did. His symptoms are worse now on Wednesday and he was crying to go outside every 30 minutes to an hour. I took him to the emergency vet where they recommended I take him to his regular vet during the day. Now I’m in kind of a catch 22. My dog needs to be treated. He is suffering with worsening symptoms and clearly in pain. I spent $1500 at the emergency vet because it appears Starch has too many clients now. I will be searching for a different vet, which is too bad because I did like and appreciate their care.

Experiencia fantástica: Love this vet! Helped me with my dog who had extremely bad separation anxiety and anxiety in general after our home burned down. They got him on meds and now he is his old happy playful self and does scream and bark for hours after we leave. They are always clean, it smells wonderful, and the staff are very welcoming and sweet. I have never had a bad experience there.

Experiencia positiva: My issue is not with the staff. The staff have always been amazing. They used to be so affordable. Their prices now are sky high. I ended up taking my pets elsewhere because it was so much cheaper to get them fixed, nearly half as much.

Experiencia positiva: We had an overall really good experience. We brought in ask 3 animals and the vet was great. Walked through everything needed and not needed and spoke with us about our concerns. She took the time we needed for our first visit and made sure she introduced herself to the animals. Our tech was clearly at the end of a long day, but the overall experience was great.

Experiencia fantástica: My cat had an accident in his carrier on the way in and without being asked, the vet tech took him in and cleaned him up as well as gave me a new towel for his carrier since the old one was soiled. Both myself and my cat were treated with care and compassion. We originally went in for a second opinion since our old vet had given me an estimate for $2k worth of dental work that needed to be done. I was shocked to learn that his teeth were completely fine. The vet took the time to explain and show me his teeth, and was nothing but honest. I know he was doing what was best for both my pet and I and not just trying to make money. Moving forward we will ONLY be going to Starch because of how amazing and honest they were. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Experiencia fantástica: I have been going here for past 10 years for my dogs’ care. All the vets and techs are friendly and helpful! Dr. Kay saved my dog who had a stomach obstruction. She took my concerns and his medical history seriously and helped refer him to another vet surgeon who could do the surgery last minute.

Experiencia fantástica: This place is a god send . Our Great Dane Baloo was our world. They’ve been caring for him for a few years now. They let us take time to spend all the time we could at home with our fur baby and when he was at the very end of his life we made the call the gentleness the compassion from scheduling to put our baby to his final rest and out of his suffering and through the entire process and even after our family and our fur baby was treated with so much dignity, support, love and compassion. I was able to be with him from start to end and was given time to finish our good byes. Dr Green was amazing and all the staff! They’ve always taken great care of Baloo and the day we had to say good bye they took care of us as well. Thank you to you all! If you’re looking for a place that cares for your fur babies I would recommend here over and over again and always have since we made the switch to here a few years ago.

Experiencia positiva: A good place to trust the health of your best friends..Tried IA Vet Specialists and they only cared about money, not my pets. STARCH treats you and your pets like family. Unfortunately, they have become one of the MOST EXPENSIVE vets in the area. They just aren't worth what they charge. Too bad, it used to be a great place to take your pets.

We discovered a concerning mass on her paw and sought professional help for its removal. Dr. Martz, the attending surgeon, demonstrated remarkable expertise and compassion throughout the process. He meticulously explained the procedure and worked diligently to reduce the overall cost of the treatment. The surgical team successfully removed the mass and performed cryogenic freezing on a growth on Nova's eyelid at a significantly reduced cost compared to other facilities in my region. I highly recommend Starch for their exceptional veterinary services and would gladly award them a six-star rating if possible.

Experiencia negativa: Visited about a couple months ago with my almost 15 year old yorkie. He had a huge wound by his eye and they told me it would never go away and that there wasn’t much they could do. They provided me medicine for his wound and gave me details on putting him down. His wound is completely gone and is definitely doing a lot better for his age. What a complete disappointment. I’m not sure the vet knew what he was talking about. The wound itself did look severe. Very uncomfortable and sad feeling assuming my dog was close to his end. The only good thing they did do was get me in ASAP and allowed the visit without updated shots. Will never return or suggest this hospital.

She has given me so much evidence-based research regarding my dog’s diet, vitamins, healthy habits, etc. Referred me to additional resources to help with my dogs arthritis. Saved me money by giving me honest information about the frequency of check-ups for my dog’s blood work. The support professionals are also always friendly and kind and well educated. Have been taking my dogs to this clinic years. Even called to consult with them one time when I was living in a different state for a 2 years. I really do enjoy this clinic.

Experiencia negativa: If I could give Zero stars I would. The front staff have all changed and gone downhill. Really miss the girls that use to work there. We don't get greeted with the same positive attitude and kind smiles like we use to. Really a bummer as we have been coming here for generations.

Experiencia fantástica: We have been going to starch for 2-3 years and the vets and receptionists are always very friendly and appointments are easy to schedule online. The vets are very knowledgeable and give us all our options depending on the situation. They also provide estimates when requested. Pets are very expensive but starch isn’t too bad. My cat had a bump on his nose and they did an amazing job removing it and now you can’t even tell there was anything there.

Experiencia negativa: Been bringing my dogs here for 40 years. Cant believe how downhill it has become. Brought my dog for a wellness exam and heartworm test. Took her blood and that was it. Didnt check her eyes, ears...nothing. she is 11. She is a senior with history of seizures . She asked how she was doing. And that was it. Got charged for both. Used to be a great place to go. Now its a business. Sad

But the techs and Dr. Takes were so nice about it and very caring towards my cat (and me!) because she was so scared and they understood that. As usual we get the BEST service starting from the receptionist, front desk staff and the vet’s are amazing. We have a Pit Bull and Starch vets have never muzzled him and they just love on him with treats and hugs! Starch is the only place we trust for our pets!

He was very happy to meet his new vet! Learned how much he actually weighs! And confirmation was given that he is most likely a Maine Coone/Munchkin mix! Also purchased medicine for his eyes! I was very pleased with the caring service I’ve always been given at Starch’s!

Experiencia fantástica: They made our appointment for the tech to come out to our vehicle to give my dog his regular allergy shot. At this time Im very nervous to bring him into a public area or place where dogs are because of the untreatable respiratory virus which has a lot of uncertainties along with it. I just feel it's smart to take precautions when I know this pup wouldn't be a great candidate for anything respiratory. With all of that said, they without a problem came right out into our vehicle and gave it to him there :) I was very much thankful!! Thank you so so very much!!

My pups are both very attached and get very nervous if Iam out of their site. From the front staff who reminds us what to do before surgery, checking us in and letting us wait in the car until a room opens (because my puppy gets to excited) the techs who are so patient and so attentive to the vet who sat and explained everything and was very knowledgeable. I appreciate and recommend this clinic. They also send out friendly reminders witch is so nice too! I’d say they are pretty reasonable with their pricing as well.

He was patient and took the time to answer all my questions - It's always busy inside and running a little behind, but that's expected at a vet office!

They were exceedingly kind when my 14 yo Corgi was at the end of his life and helped me get through that sad experience. I recently was back with my new dog, Pippa, and a stray cat that adopted me. For both, they received excellent care and they came away from it in good spirits. I can't recommend them enough and think very highly of their care.

My yorkie has severe anxiety . So bad he needs meds for travel. After we got home it took him all evening to calm down. Between his severe anxiety and allergies. I really need something daily for him. Something that I can keep him home to treat. Ihave been with Starch Pet Hospital since 2001.

Checked in and confirmed details of visit once in room. Dr Martz is always so great with my cats - which is why I drive down from Ames to see him. His tech that assisted him was great - cats were calm while they each received 2 shots and an exam Thorough and efficient - thanks Starch!

Experiencia fantástica: As usual, my visit to Starch Animal Hospital with Clarabelle went off without a hitch. It was easy to get the tech appt when I called the day before, and they gave her her Sub Cutaneous fluids quickly and resupplied me so I could do it at home. i take all of my animals to Starch unless I can't get an appointment, which does happen sometimes, but they can usually squeeze me in!

Experiencia fantástica: We have a two year old Holland Lop. It is a HUGE challenge to find veterinarians who care for rabbits. We have had two emergency situations with GI Stasis that sneaks up on rabbits quickly and is deadly if it is not treated in a timely fashion. The staff at Stark has fit us in both times. This last time they were incredibly busy! Their lobby was FULL! Dr. takes still saw us anyway and was very kind to me. Our family brought Opal into our lives during the pandemic and we love her so much. Admittedly, some days she and our golden retriever are my only source of joy. I don’t know what I would do without them. Highly recommend Dr. Takes and their staff at Stark. Opal is showing signs of improvement. Thank goodness! She is up for cuddles this morning! ❤️ Thank you, Dr. Takes, you are incredibly kind.

They have definitely made some stressful situations less so and just appreciate that they actually "see" the patients they care for and not just push them through. I have two geriatric dogs with their own set of health and personality issues. I thank you very much for putting up with this sometimes over the top n cautious fur mom. I see and now personally know that this place is just a wonderful as its reputation says.

However, this Doctor has shown so much care and love not only with our fur babies but the same love as I went through my own medical issues. while I was at Mayo for 80 days, my wife called to say our doodle got into chocolate and Dr. Takes was there for my wife and Doodle while I were so far away. I thought how much more can I handle. Just knowing my doodle will be fine but knowing all the stress my wife was already under Dr. Takes will give her the support that I was not there in person to give. Dr. Takes is a blessing.

Experiencia fantástica: I had taken in a stray soon after having my pet put down due at Starch to cancer. He was an intact male cat who had sprayed me in my sleep. I was able to get in that morning with Starch. What a relief! He is going to have a forced home with me and the vet tech said that they all gave him so much love during his stay, and I believe they did.

Experiencia fantástica: This Pet Hospital was so good to us last week when we were scrambling to find some answers on our cats tail which ended up having to be amputated. After several calls to vets that left us feeling so helpless and discouraged we did not give up. We seeked their help through the ARL of Iowa after realizing this was not a surgery we could afford at the time. The Vet and her staff were all so helpful and sympathetic during the whole process. We are so grateful for all their help because our baby Galaxy is now recovering from his surgery. We will definitely recommend all of our loved ones with their furry babies to this Pet Hospital. Experiencia fantástica: My situation required a whole bunch of flexibility, creativity and expertise, as well as someone willing to fit me in when I was in quite a predicament. It’s not always possible for someone to even offer to make time to help problem solve an issue with lots of moving parts, but they did and I will be forever grateful. They could’ve just referred me to an emergency clinic and been done with me but the DRs talked together & called me back and said come on in. And on top of friendliness and desire to help, they also solved everything with a Friday surgery and my bulldog and all her puppies are happy and healthy. Everything I could ask for.

Experiencia fantástica: My cat, Öskar, just had his yearly check up/rabies vaccine. A concern emerged about his losing significant weight, and she was so kind to me, and gentle with him as we had to extend the visit and do tests. She also explained all the tests and (later) results in language I could understand. It was a hard visit for my cat, and Dr. Clark showed concern for him and comforted him with hugs and scratches as if he were her own animal. I have nothing but very enthusiastic praise for this wonderful veterinarian.

Experiencia negativa: Unfortunately can't recommend. They appear to care but are so disorganized that mistakes happen and then they scramble to diffuse instead of properly handle a mishap. My dog was given an extra vax 6 months early "to save me another trip." It was unclear to me this was happening until it was too late. It won't cause her any issue however it cost me an extra $40 at this time and added stress. No solution, refund or credit was offered or given when I called to discuss this issue. Instead I was consistently met with a "Let's turn the tables and make it your fault, not ours." attitude (didn't work) as well as a scrambled diffusing and eventual apology that felt incredibly insincere. I was assured the manager would speak to the staff working at the time of our appointment.. which is good but not the solution. I'm grateful my dog will be fine but this is malpractice. It was this office that gave her the necessary and consented booster vax in July and this office that gave her an unnecessary booster vax this January; 6 months early without my understanding and proper confirmation/consent. Then charged me for said booster vax and didn't offer any resolution to me upon calling; They attempted to make it my fault, avoid apologizing and tried to save face by claiming they "saved us another trip later this year." Aside from this issue, despite them having our records for our cats which state they aren't due for Rabies until 2024, their system has been pushing that they are due right now January 2023. The office floor is pretty filthy all 3x I've been in and the vet assistants could work on clarification, confirmation and customer service skills. Even with a set appointment, you're likely to sit roughly 30 mins before getting into an exam room and then will continue to wait to be seen. If you do go here, make sure you are very clear on what your pet needs and double check everything. As for me and my 3 furbabies, we won't be back. The good things I can note; Each vet we have worked with seems kind, patient, intelligent and up to par. The office has several vets and is a decent size for volume.

Experiencia positiva: Clean, efficient, and friendly. They have a nice pet portal but wish puppy’s upcoming vaccination appointments would have been offered to be scheduled vs me seeing reminders in portal. Update: Get it can be standard to not call owners for negative test results but wish companies went the extra mile to just call, text, or email saying negative. Simple email would also serve as a nice record for other businesses that need proof of result.

Experiencia fantástica: I love Starch! I’ve been disappointed by several vets before finding them and I couldn’t be happier with the service from Starch’s staff. The tech staff are helpful and chatty and it makes going in to grab food or supplies a nice visit. The vets that I’ve met have been so nice, they actually want to hear about your pet and care about their behavior and habits. The prices are good too! I would definitely recommend Starch.
